Chevy Chase, DC - Residential Addition/Family Room

Brief Explanation of the Scope of Work
These Chevy Chase, DC
clients came to us with a need for an informal area
to spend time together as a family.
They wanted a space that felt light and open, but which
also left them wall space for artwork and a large entertainment
center. They were on the verge of having a second child
and wanted to have construction substantially completed
on a compressed timeline before the child’s birth.
The project cost approximately $125,000.
Unusual Constraints/Challenges & Creative Solutions
Our solution for their needs was to create a family-dining
room addition at the back of their house. Windows and
a full-lite sliding door take up most of the wall of
the addition and give a nice view of the backyard where
the children play safely. At the side walls of the
addition, high windows keep the space light and playful
while allowing the necessary wall space. We converted
their existing mudroom, where their back door had previously
been, into a pantry/desk area. This helps them with
storage needs for the kitchen and brings the computer
closer to the new heart of the house. The exterior
of the addition uses both brick and Hardi panel siding.
Inset panel molding accents the fenestrations.
Overall Results
The clients enjoy the use of their new area on a daily
basis. Construction was substantially completed in
time to help the new parents bring home their infant
to a welcoming and safe new space.
