Kalorama Triangle, DC - Master Bathroom
NARI CotY "Grand" Award Winner 2004
Brief Explanation of the Scope
of Work
The residents of this Adams
Morgan townhouse wanted a modern master bathroom oasis
that was unique, fun, private and functional. The bathroom
was roughly $50,000 as part of a larger remodeling
project.
Unusual Constraints/Challenges & Creative Solutions
Since we were renovating the whole floor, we were
able to make the master suite really work by reorganizing
the space
The truly innovative bathroom design is a serious
yet fun study of lines and curves. The Italian double-bowled
vanity console is mirrored by a half circle of glass
tile below (See after picture on the left).
Glass mosaic and Thassos tiled curves in the shower
continue this design element. The smooth line of the
custom frameless shower enclosure allows the space
to feel larger and integrated.
The design created many construction challenges. We
took special care in our framing and plumbing so the
lines would be excellent. Our expert tile setter took
special pride in performing this job as the differences
in thickness between stone and glass tile, plus custom
curves, made this bathroom one his more challenging

Victorian D.C. details original to the house. Installing
a contemporary bathroom in a Victorian house successfully
was as much of a big question we had, but we think
the project was an unqualified success. Excellent lighting
from recessed lights and from sconces over the medicine
cabinet ensures that the homeowners will be able to
enjoy the wonderful details and craftsmanship of their
bathroom.
Overall Results
These homeowners are pleased with their unique master
bathroom.
