Woodley Park, DC - Apartment Bathroom
NARI CotY "Merit" Award Winner 2003
Brief Explanation of the Scope
of Work
The client wanted to change
the tub to a shower and upgrade the fixtures, add more
storage space, and to make the overall space feel more
open.
Unusual Constraints/Challenges & Creative Solutions
1) The choice of big format limestone like ceramic
tiles, gives the impression that the room is larger
than it is. The custom light maple vanity was created
to float above the floor, to have a depth of 15” but
with a bow front for the sink. This gave more space
to the entry and toilet.
2) The colors were limited to light natural earth stones
so that the overall effect was monochromatic and spacious.
Juparana Colombo granite added a punch of color but
still in earth stones. The large mirror added light
and depth.
3) 4” was added to the original bathroom length
by moving the existing wall in the tub area into the
adjacent closet. The shower includes Grohe fixtures
and a hand shower. The shower has a custom sliding
glass door.
Overall Results
The customer is very pleased with the finished product.
She says that it makes her want to be in the space
and reminds her of being in her favorite hotel, the
Ritz Carlton in London.
