Kalorama Triangle, DC - Master Bathroom

Brief Explanation of the Scope of Work

Shortly after purchasing this Northwest DC home, the homeowner contacted us with the goal of completely renovating the three levels of her home. The style of the renovation reflects the transitional aesthetic preferred by the homeowner.

Unusual Constraints/Challenges & Creative Solutions

SECOND FLOOR

We totally reworked the second floor layout adding a second bathroom and to rationalize and improve the spaces. The master bathroom is spacious, luxurious and light filled, though with understated white cabinetry, Carera stone tops, subway tile and stone tile on the walls. It features a large shower area and a separate tub area. Light is provided via a generous skylight, low voltage lights and traditional sconces.

The master bedroom closet features built-in cabinetry and shelving for well organized storage of clothes and shoes.

The existing front bedroom was awkwardly L-shaped; most of the room was essentially a hallway. By partitioning off the room, we created the space for a second bathroom on the second floor, a walk in closet and of course a bedroom.

FIRST FLOOR

We opened up the first floor by removing an interior kitchen wall plus re-working a half bathroom. This process required some structural work to the second floor joists.

We created a foyer by adding a closet adjacent the front door. This mitigates the effect, common in so many DC row houses whereby upon entering the home a visitor is in the middle of the living room. Adjacent to the basement stair, we added a powder room and a foyer door (See below).

This helped break up the first floor without eliminating the clear sightline through the home. It also helped to create much needed wall space in the kitchen. At the kitchen, a cabinet island provides further storage space and delineates the kitchen from the dining room; it also allows natural light to come through from the rear of the home.

The first floor is handsomely finished with oak flooring, custom cabinetry, plenty of low voltage lighting, large windows and doors. The kitchen features high end appliances and granite counters.

BASEMENT

We also renovated the basement of this home to provide for plenty of excellent storage, a large family room, a laundry room, a mechanical room and a full bathroom.

Overall Results

The home exudes class and style and the homeowner is very happy with this renovation. The renovation greatly improves the look and function of the home.
