  Overall Results

The client is extremely pleased with the outcome. All their needs were met and greatly exceeded their expectations. Every square inch of space is now useful while not over cluttered.

The aesthetic is consistent with its clean lines and organic feel. The use of texture within the stone, wood and tile brings about an original, one of a kind feel to the space.

The clear division between closet/dressing and bedroom allows one to dress while one can sleep; an added benefit which has greatly improved the function of the space for this couple.

Chevy Chase , MD - Master Bathroom

Brief Explanation of the Scope of Work

The client retained our firm to redesign their master bathroom. The goal was to create a new space with a contemporary yet organic aesthetic while improving its circulation and function.

Their wish list included radiant floor heating, a large separate soaking tub, a dedicated shower, his and her vanity space and better division of closet space. The existing layout included two closets, a linen closet, a make-up area, and a shower/tub combo unit. The spaces were incongruent to one another, poorly planned and had a production grade aesthetic to them.

  Unusual Constraints/Challenges & Creative Solutions

What made this project especially challenging was getting all of their wants within the existing space.

During construction we discovered all of the existing plumbing in the floor penetrated the floor joists, degrading their structural integrity. In order to achieve all of their goals, we gutted the entire area and designed from scratch.

We created a dedicated his and her closet/dressing area separated from the bedroom by a pocket door (See on left), which allowed for a maximum use of space.

By eliminating all existing interior partition walls we were able to include a separate soaking tub, shower and his/her vanity area (See below).

The plumbing had to be re-worked throughout the floor and most Joists were either replaced or sistered with new lumber.
