Kalorama Triangle, DC - Kitchen Remodel and Whole House Renovation
Brief Explanation of the Scope of Work
Shortly after purchasing this Northwest DC home, the homeowner contacted us with the goal of completely renovating the three levels of her home. The style of the renovation reflects the transitional aesthetic preferred by the homeowner.
Unusual Constraints/Challenges & Creative Solutions
In order to improve the circulation and functionality in the first floor, we created a foyer by adding a closet adjacent the front door. This mitigates the effect, common in so many DC row houses whereby upon entering the home a visitor is in the middle of the living room. Adjacent to the basement stair, we added a powder room and a foyer door (see below).
This helped break up the first floor without eliminating the clear sightline through the home. It also helped to create much needed wall space in the kitchen (see floor plans below). At the kitchen, a cabinet island provides further storage space and delineates the kitchen from the dining room; it also allows natural light to come through from the rear of the home.
The first floor is handsomely finished with oak flooring, custom cabinetry, plenty of low voltage lighting, large windows and doors. The kitchen features high end appliances and granite counters.
We also renovated the basement of this home to provide for plenty of excellent storage, a large family room, a laundry room, a mechanical room and a full bathroom. As part of the scope of work, we totally reworked the second floor layout adding a second bathroom and to rationalize and improve the spaces. Overall Results
Needless to say, the homeowners are happy and enjoying their newly remodeled house.
