Brief Explanation of the Scope of Work

When the owners of this D.C. West End townhouse approached us to remodel their kitchen, they had very specific ideas of what they wanted. A sleek and modern Chef's kitchen and the reuse of their 48" Traulsen commercial refrigeration unit were key goals.

	Unusual Constraints/Challenges & Creative Solutions After careful analysis, we determined that the oversized refrigerator could fit under the stairs to the third floor, as this was the best location. We devised a creative framing plan to allow the stair stringer to be notched and supported with a new post. The existing kitchen floor was noticeably higher than the adjacent living room and the tile on it had cracked in a number of places. To equalize the heights and strengthen it, we carefully shaved down and sistered all the floor joists and inset plywood between the joists. Durock was laminated over the plywood with thin-set to exceed the ANSI requirement for the new stone flooring. The kitchen has a variety of coordinated features and finishes to meet the client's desire for a really elegant kitchen. A Lutron RadioRa remote switch controls the equivalent of 8 switches from one location. We also wired and mounted a flat panel television and installed in-ceiling speakers. The Carrera marble was carefully templated and fabricated so that the veining in the marble continues through from counter to the full height backsplash (See below). The counters were also extended across the large window sill. The limestone tile floors and the Downsview frameless cherry cabinetry combine to achieve the simple elegant looks the clients wanted
