GRAND AWARD
The
central challenge of this job was to provide additional
space for a remodeled kitchen that fit the existing house
and surrounding gardens. The intent was to design the addition
so that it looked like part of the original house. The
clients also wanted a cozy spot from which to view their
award wining gardens. With this in mind a number of study
models were presented to the client. The client chose the
one with a flat roof and parapet wall.
The construction and structural challenge was to open
up the side of the existing kitchen wide enough so
that the new kitchen space was a seamless rectangle.
We used brick, white washed to match the existing brick,
and Pella Architectural series windows completed the
look of authenticity. Even the stair and landing were
stained gray to give the patina of age. Soon with the
regrowth of the vines and bushes no one will know we
had been there.
