Basement Build out
FINALIST
AWARD
This customer’s house
had a beautiful old stair going up from the main level.
It was important to the customer and his architect
to reproduce the look and style of it in the basement
build out. This required copying the fan-shaped bottom
treads, the detailed newel post, the rail and matching
the stain.
The gas fireplace was also a must for this project.
Venting it required special framing all the way to
the back of the row house. This elevation was brought
together when we suggested adding a hi-end TV in the
space above the fireplace. It is wired to a hidden
AV cabinet on the other side of the room with an infrared
eye.
Simple clean lines were a must for this customer.
The hidden storage closets along the stair wall, aligned
with those of the bulkheads and column build-outs helped
hide the out of level floor, walls, and ceiling of
the original basement.
A small powder room adjacent to the stairs turned
out to be a “Swiss watch” with its paneled
walls and polished mosaic floor. (Photographs never
do justice to small spaces.)
The client is ecstatic about the finished product.
We call it his Zen room!
