Whole House Renovation with Pool
MERIT
AWARD
This pool addition was part
of a larger project for a middle-aged couple planning
for their retirement years. They wanted a low impact
form of exercise within their home. (The addition included
an elevator). The cost for the pool was $25,000, and
with the addition a total of $90,000.
The challenges we faced
included a north-facing elevation and a tight job
site space. Heating and cooling had
to be carefully engineered. The pool design required
ample room in the basement for the pool’s foundation
and equipment, including a sub-panel, pump, filter,
heater, and storage for pool supplies.
The creative aspects required by this job consisted
of designing multiple skylights, lights and in-pool
lighting. A tumbled marble deck was designed around
the pool with radiant heat under it. Basement space
requirements were met by digging out an adjacent crawl
space into a full basement. A good deal of under-pinning
was required.
The overall result was a compact, efficient workout
facility, which doubled as an exciting entertaining
area for family and friends. The customers were very
happy with the finished product.
