This customer had purchased
a condo in a prime, Washington, D.C. location. The
unit, however, with its “builder grade” basic
finishes and irrational design did not make him feel
comfortable in his home. He asked us to design and
build a bath, as part of a larger renovation, which
reflected his tastes and philosophy of personal space.
The
resulting bathroom with its glass, stone and stainless
steel fulfill
the owner’s primary objective for
a “rational” and “pure environment.
The aesthetic elements, including the seemingly lighter
than air half round glass sink, the skirted Toto toilet
and the picture-in-a-picture mirror surrounded with
frosted glass, helped make this a very successful and
enduring project.
This bath was remodeled within the existing space.
We maintained the Kohler cast iron tub, but enhanced
it by installing a stone apron and a frameless glass
enclosure in front of it.
Attention to detail, manifested as careful spacing,
tight grout lines, level stone planes, balanced lighting
through the mirror and crisp chrome trim connections
on all plumbing fixtures and accessories, was of great
importance to the customer.
The
big challenges were to design to the customer’s
taste and to ensure that each element of the work was
just right. Great effort was spent to ensure, for example,
that the faucet supply lines connected well with the
shut off valves. The through-the-mirror sconces had
to be precisely positioned for the balance and symmetry.
The customer was very pleased with the finished product.
