The most challenging aspect of this project was designing new spaces for the way families live today while making them feel of a piece with the existing house. Bungalow rooms are by nature modestly-sized and well-defined. Twenty-first century families are inclined towards open floor plans, eat-in kitchens, and large gathering spaces with variably defined boundaries and functions. The goal in this home was to meld the two design strategies together seamlessly.
