This modern rear two-story addition provides a cool contrast with the traditional front of this Friendship Heights row house.
This family wanted a two-story addition on the back of their Friendship Heights row house. The row house is an end unit with a traditional look. However, they had a modern aesthetic and wanted a contemporary look on the rear addition. As far as function, the family needed a new expanded kitchen and family room on the first floor and two bedrooms on the second floor.
The addition has a flat roof and the exterior is clad in fiber cement flat panels. To add an organic element, the design includes expanses of wood. Large windows floor the interior with natural light. The rear sliding glass door is recessed, to provide some protection from the elements.
