This beautiful sculpture – carved out of an oak tree — is in the front yard of a client’s house. Homeowner Jan is an artist, and she designed it, then she and her husband Alan hired a wood carver to complete the design. They opted for this artistic solution to the issue of a dead oak tree in their front yard. It was after we completed a whole-house project on their Potomac home that the clients found that the massive oak tree would have to come down. They hired Paul Waclo of Chainsaw Carving by Paul to translate the design to the tree trunk. His son Austin assisted. The carving took 5 days to complete. It is finished with a stain.
“One of the things we like about it is that the unusual undulating shape and ‘see-thru’s’ make it look different from different viewing angles, at different times of day, and in different sunlight,” the homeowners say.
