Building a Roof Deck

We’re building a roof deck on this rowhouse in Washington, D.C. It’s located in the H Street Corridor neighborhood. Here is the latest image with the new door accessed by stairs from the third level.

STEP 1 - Before photo of the roof
STEP 2 - Design of the deck and access structure
STEP 3 - We used a crane to bring the wood and materials to the roof
STEP 4 - Framing the structure that will provide access to the roof deck with stairs from the home's third floor
STEP 5 - Finalizing the framing and prepping for roofing materials
STEP 6 - A good ice and water barrier is very important for the roof of this structure!
STEP 7 - The sides of the structure are now covered with Tyvek house wrap and ready for the siding installation
STEP 8 - We're also building a lower deck
STEP 9 - Framing the sides of the deck structure
STEP 10 - Installing plywood over the framed side walls of the deck
STEP 11 - Installing windows in the stair structure
STEP 12 - The fiber cement James Hardie siding installed on the roof structure
STEP 13 - The fiber cement James Hardie siding installed around the windows
STEP 14 - Installing drywall on the interior of the stairway to the roof
STEP 15 - Finishing the interior stairwell
STEP 16 - Standing seam metal roof for the deck structure
STEP 17 - Deck walls are being covered with fiber cement panels
STEP 18 - Building interior stairs to the roof
