Jane Wilde

Jane was drawn to design for the balance it strikes between creativity and practicality, a field where imagination has to answer to how a space actually functions. They studied Interior Architecture after nearly going into set design instead, leaving them with an unusually deep knowledge of lighting and color rendering. They approach lighting from both a scientific and an aesthetic angle, and believe it's often what makes or breaks a space.

At Landis, Jane serves as a Project Coordinator, where they're known for adaptability, an ability to jump into a wide range of projects and quickly adjust when circumstances shift. What they find most rewarding is establishing a design language early on that informs every decision that follows, especially in the subtle details that pull a project together. One formative experience was designing a residence in France for a client building abroad; working with a multinational team and drawing to both US and European standards taught them a great deal about readability and visual communication. They also bring specialized product knowledge to the more niche situations that come up on a project.

A member of the ICAA Mid-Atlantic Chapter, Jane would choose Maya Lin as their ideal dinner guest, for her holistic approach across art, architecture, and environment, and because she's funny. Their favorite architecture in DC is Brutalist; partial to the honeycomb vaults of the Metro. Outside of work, they can be found bird watching, fishing, drawing, or whittling. Their advice to anyone entering the field: use a project's limitations to your advantage and let constraints push your creativity.
