Permit Specialist & Operations Analyst
Peter Schans

Peter is a Washington, DC native whose interest in construction started at home. Growing up, his family wentthrough a few remodels, including adding an elevator for a disabled familymember, giving him an early look at how a house can be reshaped around thepeople living in it. That fascination never faded; to this day, he and his wiferarely walk past a house for sale without pulling up the listing photos tostudy the layout.

At Landis, Peter serves as the Permit Specialist and Operations Analyst, where he guides projects through DC's zoning and permitting process and builds internal tools that keep project tracking moving faster for the whole team. He points to a specific project as one that shaped his career, a record lot conversion followed by a large, complex permit application. Seeing the project through to a finished home confirmed what he believes about this work: cleverly navigating the bureaucratic side is what allows good design to actually get built. Peter is persistent by nature and doesn't stop at the first no. If there's a path to make a homeowner's vision, he'll chase it down.

Outside of work, Peter plays on several District Soccer teams, travels whenever he can, and follows the Capitals. His favorite spot in the city is the Capitol building, where he takes evening walks with Zoe, his four-year-old Cocker Spaniel. His advice for anyone entering the field: be resilient, creative, and adaptable. Projects rarely go exactly to plan, and the people who thrive are the ones who keep problem-solving instead of getting stuck.
